Geminids Meteor Shower 2011

The predicted maximum of the Geminids, the most active meteor shower of the year occurs on Wednesday 14th December.
The zenithal hourly rate is put at 100 plus. The 19 day old moon rises at 8.00 pm GMT. The constellation of Gemini is well placed in the eastern sky as soon as it becomes dark.
This is the richest of the annual showers, with slow and a reasonable proportion of bright events so very suitable for photography. The particles are asteroid debris and one can expect various colours and in particular from the experience of Alex Vincent and myself very bright green ones can be expected.
Members are invited to come and go as they wish throughout the evening.
Please telephone me if in doubt about the seeing conditions, contact me on 01903 505346.
